BNI Life and Jiva Catalyst Foundation Join Forces to Plant Mangroves at Taman Wisata Alam Angke Kapuk

Jakarta, October 9, 2026 – BNI Life and Jiva Catalyst Foundation held a mangrove planting initiative title “Seed to Forest, From Roots to Future: Mangrove Planting” at Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) Angke Kapuk, Jakarta on Friday, October 9, 2026. The initiative was part of the Road to BNI Life’s 30th Anniversary series and followed BNI Life’s donation of 300 mangroves seedlings in July 2026. Through this collaboration, the two organizations sought to promote environmental conservation through direct action, with a particular focus on protecting coastal ecosystems.
The event brought together BNI Life executives, employees participating in the Class of Maverick program, and community representatives. The program opened with remarks from a BNI Life executive, followed by an educational session on mangrove ecosystems led by Maya Lynn, Founder of Jiva Catalyst Foundation. The session introduced participants to the ecological importance of mangroves, including their role in reducing wave energy and helping protect coastal areas.
Maya Lynn highlighted the importance of translating environmental support into tangible action, noting that the planting initiative marked the next step following BNI Life’s donation of 300 mangrove seedlings in July. “Last July, in conjunction with World Mangrove Day, BNI Life donated 300 mangrove seedlings. Today, in observance of World Habitat Day and as part of the Road to BNI Life’s 30th Anniversary series, we are planting those seedlings together. This is how a donation becomes meaningful action”, Maya Lynn said.
Mangroves play a vital role in maintaining coastal ecosystem health, providing habitats for various species and helping protect shorelines from erosion and wave impacts. During the educational session, Maya Lynn emphasized their importance as a natural form of coastal protection, particularly in areas facing the combined challenges of land subsidence and rising sea levels. “Mangroves are nature’s insurance policy”, she said, underscoring their role in helping safeguard coastal communities and ecosystems.
The program continued with the Sustainability Commitment Moment, an interactive session in which participants shared or wrote down their commitments to incorporating sustainable practices into their daily lives. Following a briefing on planting procedures and safety measures, BNI Life executives and Jiva Catalyst Foundation representatives took part in a symbolic planting ceremony to mark the beginning of the initiative. Participants were subsequently divided into groups to plant the 300 mangrove seedlings across designated land-based and water-based planting areas.
As part of the collaboration, Jiva Catalyst Foundation will monitor the growth of the planted seedlings and report on their progress to BNI Life. This follow-up process is intended to ensure that the initiative extends beyond the planting stage to include ongoing monitoring and maintenance. Through these efforts, both organizations aim to support the long-term restoration and preservation of coastal ecosystems.
Through Seed to Forest, From Roots to Future: Mangrove Planting, BNI Life and Jiva Catalyst Foundation reaffirm their shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. By combining environmental education with hands-on participation, the initiative aims to deepen participants’ understanding of coastal conservation and encourage them to integrate sustainable practices into their workplaces and communities.
